1968 Harley Chopper

Harley Motorcycle Is a Former Museum Piece that Proves Cool Never Goes Out of Style

Choppers remind everyone of the ’60s and ’70s, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still cool. In fact, a well-built chopper still grabs attention like no other bike. And if you love stellar examples, look no further than this 1968 Harley-Davidson chopper, which was recently up for $25 grand on eBay.

This is no basic, everyday custom chopper, either. Built by Atomic Customs, the vintage Harley bike originally served as a work of art. We mean that literally, because it was featured at the “Motorcycles as Art” display at the “Buffalo Chip” in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Ridden sparingly over the years, this chopper also saw time on display at the Holter Museum of Art in Helena, Montana. As you would imagine, this is a no-expense-spared build. The cases and internals are all Harley-Davidson, but many custom bits see duty here.

A Phares Cycle Parts 2 over a narrow I-beam springer mates to a stock straight leg frame. High shoulder aluminum wheels give a nice stance with a 21-inch wheel up front and 16-inch wheel in the back. The king and queen seat is custom, as are the pullback rabbit ear bars.

Other custom bits include the sissy bars and foot controls. Custom engraving adorns the rocker boxes, air cleaner cover, cam cover, and cast aluminum primary. Upswept custom exhaust exists as the only option for a bike like this, and the look is timeless.

The sum of all these parts is one of the coolest period correct choppers around. With vintage looks and modern reliability, you won’t find one better than this 1968 Harley chopper. Maybe you can track down the owner and make him an offer!
