Class Action Filed Against Harley-Davidson Over Leaking Rushmore CVOs

Beauty shot of CVO Ultra Limited against mountain horizon

Water cooling is a touchy subject here on the forums, to put it mildly. Many members believing it robs Harley’s iconic touring bikes of the beauty and—relative—simplicity which has defined them for decades. But given that it’s a new system, the occasional bug is to be expected Unless you’re Robert Okon, that is. Last Thursday, the 2014 CVO owner filed a class-action lawsuit in Illinois federal court, having been unsatisfied with his local dealership’s apparent inability to fix his leaky bike.  From Cyril Huze Post:

The suit alleges the motor of the 2014 Rushmore FLHTKSE CVO Limited motorcycles have a design defect that affects the performance of its engine and associated coolant systems. “CVO Limited owners and lessors have been damaged because they possess a motorcycle with a design defect which cannot be repaired as required under “Harley-Davidson’s 24 month, unlimited mileage written warranty,” the complaint said.

Now, while the forum has seen its share of complains about the new machines spewing coolant, this seems like a pretty drastic step, and makes me wonder if there weren’t better ways to handle this issue. The latest HDF poll about the subject is—at least so far—showing mostly happy Rushmore owners.

You’d imagine both Okan and the MoCo would have preferred a solution which didn’t involve the federal court system? But like some of the members have speculated, I imagine there’s more to this story.
