Iconic Brand Gets Serious About Pampering Bikers’ Pets

There was a time when only the rich and influential traveled with their pets. Black-and-white photographs of upper-crust ladies posing with their French poodles and Scottish cats often come to mind. That’s not the case anymore. Involving your pets in daily affairs is for the bourgeois now.

Regardless of social status, there’s a specific group of people that has been including their four-legged friends all along: Harley-Davidson riders. Back in 1914, legendary adventure-seeker Della Crewe embarked on a cross-country trip aboard a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and who do you think she brought along? Not her boyfriend, of course. She brought her dog, who rode in the side car and wore a custom sweater!

Ever since then, pets have been welcome to all Harley-Davidson showrooms and facilities. As a result, dealerships always maintain doggy bowls full of water and treats for the little rascals. But now, now things are getting serious. The Harley-Davidson line of pet apparel is growing. It now includes shirts, treats and even Harley-licensed pet toys.

“To us, dog is family, and Harley-Davidson is a family-oriented brand,” says Jodi Politowski, a manager at the House of Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee. The company also has a strong relationship with the Humane Society and sponsors many pet-oriented events and fundraisers to support that partnership.

Customers love to feel like they’re part of something. We at Harley-Davidson Forums certainly do. So, next time you stop by the dealer to pickup a new shirt or even a new bike, grab something for your beloved pet!
