Rumor: Harley-Davidson To Build 500cc Bike?

Easily the most interesting news to come out of Harley-Davidson’s 110th celebration is the rumor of a new motorcycle. Harley had announced they were building at least one new bike a few months ago. This one, though, is supposed to be their smallest cruiser ever.

According to Gizmag, the new bike will be a puny 500ccs. COO Matt Levatich says the bike’s intended to nimble with a low seat height and supple throttle and braking. Apparently the project is so far along that Levatich has ridden the thing. It’s not quite complete yet though, as he says, “new engines are complicated”.

More interesting than the fact that it exists in the first place, is that it might be built in India. Now, that might sound weird at first, but considering the size of the bike, this kinda makes sense. Motorcycles are still the main mode of transportation throughout most of Asia. Even at 500ccs, it would still be one of the biggest bikes on a the block. It’d still be a Harley in a world of Hondas.

Whether or not this bike will come to the states is another question entirely. We’ll just have to wait on an official word from Harley on whether they’re going forward with this small scale HD at all.

What do you think? Should they go through with it? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
