Say Goodbye to Your Beloved Motorcycle? Never!

Do you own a beloved classic vehicle or motorcycle that you could never see yourself parting with? Unfortunately for Parisians, they will most likely have to do exactly that.

In order to improve air quality, the City of Lights, Paris, has decided to clamp down on pollution with a new ban. This time, France’s capital city will not allow anyone to drive any type of vehicle registered before 1997. The rules are even stricter with motorcycles, as no motorcycle older than June 1, 1999 will be allowed within city limits.. Say what!

This ban is only effective during weekdays only, and owners are permitted to drive their precious vintage motorbikes and cars on the weekends, though we are not sure how long that will last. Probably not very long. As it stands, vehicles used in Paris need a color-coded sticker to identify which emissions group they belong, to and will be heavily fined if the rules are not followed. There are similar systems implemented across Asia and South America.

As if that announcement wasn’t shattering enough, the city of Hanoi in Vietnam, has outlined plans to ban all motorcycles by 2025 in an effort to solve the growing traffic problem and to help promote public transport. There are currently 4.9 million motorcycles and scooters on the roads of Hanoi, which was estimated to have a population of 7.7 million in 2015. There were about 8,000 to 20,000 new motorcycles registered in Hanoi each month in 2015, with officials estimating up to 7 million two-wheelers on the roads by 2020. That’s a lot of bikes!
