Sidecar Dogs

Dogs are man’s best friend for a reason. They love us, protect us, and are forever loyal. Whether they partner with a young adult seeking their way in the world or find themselves all that is left after the kid’s have grown up, there is no denying that they are family.

And being family, they cannot understand or fathom why, at times, we climb on out motorcycles and leave. They want to come along and be with us as we roar down the city streets and the rural roads. And more than anything, we want to fulfill that wish.

We’ve seen two dogs — Sir Davidson and Benjamin — who are certainly Harley-riding hounds that enjoy going everywhere with their owners. However, one group has gone out of their way to feature a truly great thing: America’s sidecar dogs.

Sidecar Dogs

Over the years, sidecar dogs have become much more popular. Riders of many different motorcycles will slap on that third wheel, buy a pair of “doggles,” and take their furry best friend out with them when they go for a ride.

The people love it and the dogs love it. Sometimes the dogs even appear to be better at riding than their owner holding the handlebars. They really enjoy the wind blowing through their fur!

The movement to get the documentary made — titled “Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America’s Sidecar Dogs” — came about as a Kickstarter campaign that took off magnificently.

Sidecar Dogs

The film itself features eighteen different riders and their dogs. The group is very diverse when it comes to the people, the dogs, and the bikes, but don’t worry — Harley-Davidson riders are most definitely present!

But aside from simply being a wonderful creation in and of itself, the documentary also has a strong focus on rescue dogs. Most, if not all, of the animals pictures are rescue animals. It’s amazing how far they have come!

The DVD is for sale online for $18.50 and on Blu-Ray for $24.50. 25% of all proceeds from the sale of the movie goes toward aiding in animal rescue. Feel free to check out some more information on these sidecar dogs and on the Kickstarter program that got them started.
