Thanksgiving – What I am thankful for

HDForums-Happy Thanksgiving

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday the seeming everyday focus in the media and of some of my co-workers it seems that the reason for the holidays gets more lost every year.

Today I wanted to share what I am most thankful for this Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

My Children

The two knuckleheads that I helped bring into this world bring the most heartache and the most joy in life. When I was a young man I did not want to have children but life had other plans for me. Now I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Wife

Another thing I never planned on doing was getting married. I definitely didn’t plan on getting married a second time. The thing that happens in life is you learn from mistakes you make, you learn to make better life choices, be nicer, and realize what’s important to you. I chose the second time a person who supports me, who believes in me, and who I want to be my very best for. That’s a lot of things to be thankful for.

Family

I am not close to my family. Decisions, personalities, and distance all conspire to become convenient excuses in life. It’s a funny thing that we live in the most connected world in history and yet we connect with those closest to us the least. It’s up to us to reach out and connect. I am so thankful that I speak to my dad ever few days now, a far cry from my youth, and the relationship that we share.

Friends

Age is an interesting thing, we make friends as children as easy as we breathe the air around us. As we get older we carry baggage, ideas, and mistrust with us that makes creating new connections so much harder. Hobbies are the great melting pot of making these new connections. Whether it is riding motorcycles or driving off road I have made some great friends that extend outside of these circles and have become so much more.

Tell us what you are thankful for in the comments below.
