1953-Harley Davidson-AdvertisementWe stumbled across this advertisement today and we were struck by how much this 1953 ad reflects the current line up from Harley-Davidson. In this week’s Throwback Ad we do some time travel comparison with HD of yesteryear. The Model 165 was the entry level motorcycle, it was made in another country, less expensive, and less powerful than the rest of the line up, and designed for new and beginner riders. Today’s Street 500 fills that same niche.

The Model K and the Sportster share that smaller “big” bike and the K was definitely the precursor to the Sportster.

The Model 74 is the great grandfather of every big-twin sold today. 1953 didn’t have a bagger or a touring bike as we know them today but the Model 74 could and did do it all.
