Top 5 Coolest Motorcycle Helmets

Last year, Bad Ass Helmet published its list of the “50 Coolest Motorcycle Helmets.” This list arrived as advertised, a bloated tally that made little distinction between shock value and style. In the interest of brevity, we’ve whittled Bad Ass’s list (of 50) down to five.

These helmets were chosen because they appear to be either sleek, functional, or some combination of the two. Little weight was afforded to age-old gimmicks (Viking horns, anybody?) with the philosophy being no biker wants to make a parody out of his ride.

What remains are the five essential helmets. Hardcore enthusiasts might refer to them as crowns:

Harley1. The Bell Custom Harley. A traditional Harley helmet says as much about the rider as it does about the brand. For here we find a trademark of the American road. If the H-D tradition can be considered a sign of patriotism, then the black and orange might be considered the same as rolling out the flag.

Roof Boxer2. The Roof Boxer. Black and angular, suggestive of the viper, the Roof Boxer features a flip visor and a 360 cast. The Boxer is scratch-proof and water-proof and the shield won’t blur in mist or fog. This helmet features cheek pads and air vents. The style is functional and utilitarian. It also allows the rider to maintain an air of mystery while on the run.

Schu23. The Wireless Schuberth S2. The Schuberth S2 represents the best of both worlds – a stunningly-designed piece of hardware that allows for the use of mobile devices at any time. Take a call, pipe in some music. The Schuberth is constructed to let you feel cool on the inside, while looking cool on the out.

Red Hood4. The Red Hood. Batman fans might recognize The Red Hood as being one of the original alter egos of The Joker. Star Wars fans might recognize this helmet as appearing very similar to the head gear worn by members of the Imperial Guard. Either way, if your game of choice is racing, the Red Hood looks intimidating as hell.

Cat Eyes5. The Cat Eyes Visor. A slightly more sinister version of the Roof Boxer, Akuma’s Cat Eyes Visor features a pair off ice-blue lights across the shield – glowing, glaring, angular and sharp. Are these visor lights potential cop-bait? They might be. But in the right settling, they might also provide the rider with a little bit of fun.
