vrod-night-rod.jpgFirst introduced in 2002, Harley-Davidson's V-Rod celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2012 with a new model that features a liquid cooled engine and many other exciting features. There are three different models in the 2012 line; in addition to the special anniversary design, there is an updated Night Rod Special and a new V-Rod Muscle. The 1130 cc engine from the first V-Rod helped to usher in a new age of performance for Harley-Davidson motorcycles of all types, and the newest vehicles in the line-up are equally game-changing and revolutionary.

Influence of the V-Rod

The original V-Rod engine was the first of Harley-Davidson to feature overhead cam shafts and liquid cooling, and it also came with a revolutionary high-winding 9000 rpm redline. It was inspired by drag-racing bikes and came with a unique aesthetic that featured aluminum disc wheels, anodized aluminum bodywork and a fast-back seat, among other features. The vehicle therefore marked a departing point for Harley-Davidson not only in terms of the functionality of the bike, but also as far as the appearance is concerned as well. Customers took to the V-Rod immediately and purchased it in large quantities; the maker rolled out several new additions to the lineup within just a couple of years.

The V-Rod Today

The three new models of the V-Rod for the 2012 model year will each be powered by a state-of-the-art engine that features 1250 cc and liquid cooling. It's a V-Twin that sports dual overhead cam shafts as well as four-valve cylinder heads. On the powertrain, customers will find a 5-speed transmission and a carbon-fiber drive belt designed for high performance. High-end performance brakes and tires help to complete the vehicle setup for the highest performance available on almost any factory direct Harley-Davidson ever built.

The 10th Anniversary Bike

The 2012 10th Anniversary V-Rod is undoubtedly the most unique and exciting of the new V-Rods to be unveiled in this model year. As a special, commemorative motorcycle design, it will only be built for the 2012 model year. It features Brilliant Silver Pearl bodywork in a matching color to the frame for a totally unique appearance. Harley Davidson has also added extra chrome covering to the speed screen, engine and exhaust systems to provide even more shine for the vehicle. Along with these cosmetic features, customers will also find a host of functional and interior bonuses as well. These range from a new pullback handlebar with a custom polished finish to new inverted front forks made in a silver color and more.

The V-Rod Muscle provides an amped up version of the 10th Anniversary bike, providing a cutaway over the rear wheel for added power and maneuverability. The appearance of the bike is designed for power and intimidation as well. The Night Rod Special offers a dark, sinister appearance for another aesthetic.
