The Machine Gun Preacher Puts Two Rides up for Raffle
Sam Childers is a both a Harley-Davidson fan — a former Outlaw biker, in fact — and philanthropist. The Pennsylvania native first set his sights on helping those less fortunate when he went on a mission retreat to Southern Sudan.
The land and the people were suffering, and there was an abundance of damage. All of this had come about from the country’s second civil war and Joseph Kony’s LRA Rebels. After all he went through on his mission retreat, Childers decided to dedicate his life to helping renew the hope in these children who had very little — if any — of it left.
In 1998 Childers founded the Angels of East Africa, an organization geared toward rescuing, restoring, and enabling the children of this war-torn region. Sam Childers has written a book and been a focus of both a movie and documentary.
Now you have a chance to win one of his two magnificent hogs and do some good at the same time.
The first bike is the Machine Gun Preacher Rat Bike, which was featured in the movie, where Childers was played by none other than Gerard Butler. This ride is said to be worth fifty grand (yes, $50,000). But despite this hog’s Hollywood fame, we would argue that the next bike is also quite amazing: A 2003 Ironhorse Texas Chopper.
This motorcycle has been in Sam’s possession for seven years, and it is remarkable. We have to appreciate that, despite his sentiment and attachment to the dear ride, he was willing to put it up for grabs for the good of the children of east Africa.
So how can you win these bikes? They will find their (hopefully) forever homes in a raffle event on April 1, 2015. Despite the date, we assure you that this is no joke.
Only 5,000 tickets are up for sale, and they are priced at $250 each. Of course, it isn’t something you should blindly jump into. You can go and check out the bikes involved in the raffle in Cleveland, Ohio at the Piston Power Show on March 20th through 22nd. Sam Childers himself will even be in attendance!
Sam Childers has made a massive impact on the lived of not only the children of Africa, but on the people of the Western world. As more people hear his story we hope — and we’re sure he does as well — that it will move others toward philanthropic work for the good of others.
And don’t let the common stereotype fool you — you can do all of that with a Harley in your garage and a machine gun over your back!
