I put a new HD Voltage Regulator on my EGC last night as the volt gauge was pegged out, suggesting that the VR was bad. Now the gauge reads 12 volts straight up, no more no less, and I m getting a check engine light, and a battery light. The codes that pop up , are low voltage.........
You need a multi-meter and to do a number of simple checks, like what's coming out of the alternator, regulator, etc. You can easily isolate what the problem is. There are some Stickies on checking your charging system here.

Can't diagnose from the volt gauge, probably is, but may not have been the regulator. Beginning to look like you are getting the 12 volts from the battery and no charging going on .... check the voltage on the battery at idle and then at 2500 RPMs, it should increase significantly. If not, pull the regulator and check the AC voltage from the alternator system. You will know right away what is bad ....
While running, the volts coming from the battery were less than 12 , so I am going to get a stator and put it in. No charging going on at all.......
What did you measure that voltage with? The voltmeter on your bike is not suitable for doing checks. Have you done a detailed check, as per the link I posted? Don't go replacing stuff if you are not confident it needs replacement.

AGAIN!!! A few minutes of time, you might learn something new and SAVE A LOT OF MONEY! Plus, why rip into the primary if you might not have to? You came on here asking for advice, got excellent advice and yet you choose to dismiss it?
