Depends on who is riding it.

It's not the bike's fault if it is only ridden on the weekends.

+1

The rider chooses how much the bike it ridden. Who cares if it is a 72 or a Road King. Either could be out on the road as a daily rider or used occasionally on weekends. All up to the rider, not the bike.

dumb question IMHO . might as well ask if a sportster is a girl's bike .

it depends on who rides it

The 72 is whatever you want it to be. The only real limitation is the 2.1 gallon tank which does require frequent stops and riding across the country might be a challenge as far as gas stops. Other than that, you can add a touring seat, windshield, saddlebags and anything else to make it a touring bike if that's your desire. My opinion is that the 72 excels at being a great handling and quick round the town cruiser. It is raw and mechanical and the epitome of what a bike should be.

All these Sportster models - my opinion - are small bikes and good for around town cruising. For long rides, and 2-up, there are better choices.

I bought a 2012 1200C Sportster because my touring bike is just "too much" for these short trips.

No one bike "does it all" - everything is a compromise. Or, buy as many bikes that are "fit for purpose" for the different riding you want to do. But many of us can't afford this ideal option.
