I don't know about the new ones but I run Screaming Eagle syn3 in my 96tc. It never uses any and seems to run cooler. I also don't worry about servicing every 2500 as I used to do with an 80 inch evo. The Dyna never uses or drops anything and go for 5000 without worry. The owner's manual recommends oil change at 5k so I don't worry about it. Just my thoughts. Enjoy your ride!

Full Synthetic if you can afford the extra expense. What convinced me is all the people that say "it isn't necessary". Even though I agree. With regular changes. Almost any spec grade oil will do. But that little bit extra never hurt anything.

Dealer put Syn 3 in mine at 1000 mile service and I'll keep on using a full synthetic. Maybe change brands...haven't decided yet.

If you can afford a $15000+ bike you can afford a couple of twelve dollar quarts of oil when you service your bike... Stock bikes come with conventional except cvo's but nothing but i believe in synthetic.

+1 even though MOCO has made major improvements in last few decades....it's still aircooled...give it every advantage you can. It's just a few bucks and your personal hotrod.

The OP wanted to know what the '12 models were shipped from the factory with.

They ship with Dino oil, not that said...
I changed over to Syn3 as soon as my 1000 mile service was due. Runs smooth as a kitten

Spirit,

You put Synthetic in all three holes? I have bought Syn Amsoil 20-50W and going to put in all three holes as the manual recommends that. However I have the Severe Gear that I can use. not sure which I will use but I feel I should follow HD's recommendation and put same in all 3 holes.

I will have to get a couple ears to see if they notice any diff with Amsoil Syn 20-50 in the trans.
