Does the 3198 on my vin number stand for the date my bike was built?

 

I have a Shovelhead frame and sometimes the ending numbers indicate design year. Like your frame was cast in 2008 but your frame casting was first laid down in a 1998 jig. Tough to decipher for sure...

 

I would think the 319 would mean March 19th, I know the 8 means 2008.

 

check your owners manual, there should be a VIN breakdown

 

You can call HD customer service and they can give you the info on your bike.

 

I know mine does. I remember seeing it.

 

Okay, you guys were right, it's in my owners manual. The 3 stands for engine type, which is Evolution 1200 cc air cooled, fuel injected. The 1 stands for Introduction Date, which is regular. And the 9 stands for V.I.N check digit, can be 0-9 or X.
