I just purchased a new road king , dont know much about the different luggage racks but whats your preference , Im thinking about maybe wanting to carry a duffle for now, i have the 4 point docking hardware .thanks

 

I have the Air Wing Detachable Two-Up in chrome #54283-09. Functional and complimentary to the FLHR's styling. Highly recommend you take a look at it.

You can also add a light kit to it. Air Wing Rack Light Kit #68065-10 or 68219-10.

 

Save your money and just go straight to a tour pak. I spent all kinds of $$$ on a couple of rack set ups and eventially ended up with the tour pak. Stuff stays dry, paint isn't scuffed up, and mama likes the comfort.

I have this one, hardly ever use it but it just fastens to the 4-point dock in just a few seconds.

 

I have this one in black. Although I have not used it yet. It seems big. But I will only use it when traveling, or I need to strap something big on there. I have the 4 point docking kit which makes it easy on/off.

 

I've just bought a new Road King. Is that sissy bar and luggage rack a quick attach or remove? I've wondered if we couldn't travel 2 up with all we need in the bags. Will she feel secure without a sissy bar? Seems the security of the saddle bags might eliminate the need for a sissy bar...am I wrong?

 

You definitely need the back rest for the passenger for comfort. My passenger back rest and and luggage rack are 2 separate pieces. The back rest attaches to the top of the rear shocks and the 4-point dock and then the luggage rack has different mounting points on the dock. It goes on and comes off in a couple clicks and a few seconds. Very clean set up, not cheap, but very nice.

 

When I'm riding alone can I tie something like a bedroll to the passenger back rest to make a back rest for myself?

 

That's the one I have also. I wanted the Air wing, but it will not work with the RKC unless you relocate the license plate. The other flat one that is now available wasn't out when I bought mine.

As you can see from my signature photo, the flip up back is not ideal for sissy bar luggage (which won't sit flat) but it works fine. For those that recommend a tourpak, I say--(a) its too expensive, (b) you don't need it 90% of the time, and (c) a sissy bar suitcase (like my Kuryakin Full Dresser) is much easier to use (it unhooks in seconds and roles into a hotel like a roll aboard suitcase).

 

Got one for sale in the classifieds. I bolt on a Chinese box one or two times a year for the long trips.
