I have a 2006 RKC, loaded and great shape with just turned 40,000 miles. I am looking at a 2008 Ultra Classic with 53,216 miles. My question is what is considered high mileage? How many miles can I expect to get out of the Ultra Classic. I know this is a vague question but I am curious as to how many miles do you have on your bikes of about the same age and when would I need an overhaul. I know I am going from the 88 TC 5 speed to a 96ci 6 speed. Does the 2008 have hydraulic cam tenshioners? Also moving up in models.

I am not asking anyone to make a decision for me just give me some opinions

 

I would think in the area that you live, you could find some really low milage Ultra Classics. A quick look on EBay presented a couple in your area.

was getting a kick-back on start-up.

I am now in the process of having 16" apes installed and adding the
FullSac True Dual conversion kit.

 

High / Low mileage depends on whether I am the buyer or seller. I know how my bike has been ridden, and taken care of so to me the 50,000 on my 09" is low mileage. 50,000 on somebody else's bike that I don't know is high mileage.

 

well according to the dealer that looked at my 07 street bob when i considered trading ..... 8500 was "high mileage, so that's why we couldn't offer you full trade in value".... rip-offs... so if you want a fair trade in don't go to Renegade Harley in Alexandria La!!

a friend of ours bought an ultra classic for a really good price considering it had 70,000 miles on it... it is an 06, and runs and rides pretty good for it's year and mileage... dealer was honest and said it was what they considered "high mileage" and gave him a decent warranty (not aftermarket). met a guy when i traded mine at a much better dealer that had 108K on his 02 classic and planned on riding it till he couldn't ride on 2 wheels anymore!

 

If they never changed the oil, 10K is high mileage. If they took care of it, 100K is high mileage. Just like cars. Engines these days can last forever if you take care of them.

 

LOL! Damn good question. My 1999 FXR2 has 63K on it and looks and rides like it has maybe half that. My 2010 StreetGlide has 37K miles on it and looks like showroom new. All my miles on both. I dont consider them high milage for that reason only. If they belonged to someone else I would offer them $10K on each. Mine are worth considerably more. LOL!

 

I've put 52,000 miles on my '08 and never consider the mileage until I check it to see if it's time to change the oil. I put the 103" SE255 kit in it at 10,000 miles and it still runs like new.

 

That is a very subjective question.... But I think that 4-5k a year is about average from what the dealers here in PA say.
Now in southern states, or westward.... Maybe 5-8 is average? There are just to many variables ....if you think it's worth it, then that is all that matters.

 

I had a 2008 with 61K on it. The motor was gold yet. The 08's did have hydraulic cam chain tensioners. I hadn't been into the cam chest, but was planning on checking them soon. The compensator is the weak point on the bike.

The bright side is that a new screaming eagle compensator is about $300.00 and you should be good.
