Default numbers diff in 2:1 vs. 2:2 exhaust

ive searched for the info. im sure its there. this noob cant find it though. what is the difference of a stock bike putting any 2:1 vs 2:2 pipes on? im sure it varies but does it make that big of a difference. im way more into the aesthetics of 2:2 but if its a huge difference ill search further on a 2:1. thanks in advance. adam

Different makes of the 2 into 1 systems clam from 10-12 hp and 11-12 tq improvement.
I assume this is comparing factory exhaust to the 2 into 1 differences.
Personally speaking, I prefer 2 into 1 systems.
They will wake up the bottom end power and add some to the mid range, upper end is better than stock.

I can see that increase if you add an intake and tuner, but I don't know if you can get that kind of power just by changing the exhaust. I have nothing to back this up, just my opinion.

Default My "expert"

The guys who tune my bikes told my buddy not to change to 2 into 1 alone without doing the intake and tuning. Not only a waste of money but the bike will run worse than stock. Most slip Ons are ok alone according to them.

Yeah I'm going to do intake and tuner as well. I was just looking for the difference in power of a 2:2 to 2:1 exhaust. Basically the difference between V&H big radius 2:2 vs big radius 2:1

My 04 FXD had SE slip ons, intake, and some carb work (don't know what, it was done by the previous owner). Dyno'd at 71hp/72lb/ft. Threw a Thunderheader on and jumped to 75/85.

The big radius are a tuned exhaust.
We have them on our wide glide, we love em.
Tried 2 into 1 but we both (my wife and I) agreed (unusual) They are the ones for this bike.
Our result was like this. The engine is a SS106 with head work and SS585 cams.
2 into 1 Bassani roadrage 2, Much better low end, some slight improvement at lower mid range power. The engine did not rev as quick. That is what I notice first off. Upper rpm was hurt. The cams hit at 3,000 pms and pulls hard up to 6,000 rpm.
Went back to the big radius Felt a lot better. Pulls hard all the way up. Engine revs much quicker
Your results may differ.
I did not do a new tune which I am sure damper things.
With a good tune the big radius is a good performer.
On my 05 I run nothing but 2 into 1 but it is a 113 tq. monster.
Remember my first post was representing what the makers claim. Not me.
just a thought.

Seems like I remember seeing once that a good set of 2-2 pipes will get you 5-7hp over stock and a 2-1 will get you 10-12hp. I don't remember where I read that to verify the validity of it, but I bet thats pretty close assuming an appropriate tune. More importantly, you'll generally get more low end torque with a 2-1.

Word of advice: Plenty of people started off with a 2-2 system and then later switched to a 2-1 system after they'd owned the bike for a while and wanted more power. Be honest with yourself and if you think you'll be doing more mods down the road (cams) save the money in the long run and get a 2-1 now.

Here's a thread I started a while back asking basically the same question. At that point I was planning on sticking with the 2-2 system I already had, but I changed my mind and went with a D&D FatCat.

The above numbers look pretty close..I don't really think you will come up with an exact number as every bike is different.

One thing I'll tell you is my friend has the same year and model bike, same A/C, Same tuner, and the same guy tuning it. My bike has the 2-1 propipe and he has a 2-2 that he added cams to...I still came out a tad ahead on the hp and tq.
