New 103, Fluid change Question
First, thanks for responding and am looking for some good technical information.
Just upgraded my 02 Heritage softail classic to a '13 Ultra Classic.
Give me some input on if I should change the oil, primary and tranny fluids after 100 miles. ..OR, Should I leave the current fluids in for the first 1000 miles? Are they "special" break in fluids?
If I change fluids now, I did plan to run the 20-50 non syn in the motor, and replace the primary and tranny with harley primary and tranny fluid.
I am not worried about what oil to run 5000 miles down the road, etc. I am just concerned about the now or 1000 miles [ 10 days ] later.
Thanks,
GEESE

In mine
Spending money on fluids is a personal choice. How much do you want to spend? I just got the same ultra classic in February. I changed all three at 1000. Mobile 1cycle syn in engine. Redline primary and redline tranny, k&n filter..I plan on keeping this one for a very long time so I'll spend the money..
Every dealer and shop will tell you the story for the oil brand they sell and make the most money from.. Choose for yourself and happy riding..

I ran mine 1200 miles on stock fluids when new.
No worries man, change it when you want, but before 1000 miles is wasting your money.

I ran my '13 SG 1,200 miles before the first change. Engine oil looked fine, primary oil had minimal clutch dust and the trans oil looked brand new. No need to do it any sooner than the recommended 1,000. Good luck.

1000 will be fine. You don't have to spend a lot on fluids for it to last a long time either. Stick to correct intervals, and brand name oil....dino or synthethic...will be fine. It's a personal choice & what makes you feels comfortable. Some guys guys....like me...run 3 different oils. But you will be fine if you ran a one good name brand 20W/50 oil (dino or synthetic) in all three holes.
