Default SPARKPLUG GAP

I changed my plugs the other day and I noticed the gap was diffrent between the two. The stealer said 30,000s was the gap, I got 35,000s and 40,000 on the other,no wonder it was running like crap. I gapped both at 30,000 and is running fine but would like to know the gap anyway. it's an 06 883. stock carb and air filter.

I believe the spec is 38-43 thousands. I always do 40. I didn't think there was a difference with 06. Maybe you have weak spark?

Exactly, you just gapped your spark plugs out of spec.

I just picked up plugs for my '06 this afternoonand verified with the dealer the gap should be .038" to .042" - maybe it was just me but I couldn't find it anywhere in the service manual.

Thanks guys I'll regap tonight when I get home. Still strange that the gap was off between the two plugs was it done wrong from the dealer on the 1000 mile service,What else could have caused it? Just wondering

A cylinder running lean and hot can cause the tip to bend out of spec simply from heat. There are other factors that could contribute to having one hot cylinder as well, like spark timing, but regardless it's comes down to heat being the cause for the tip bending out of spec. I had the same deal when I first got my bike, stock carb and everything......so running a little lean to begin with, and found one plug to have a gap of .048 and the other about .040. Anyhow, for your information, .030 is ussually a standard plug gap from most plug manufacturers, and that maybe why the stealer said it was .030.
