Default Average maintenance cost?

Been awhile since I've posted here. I sorta have the itch again and the 07 FXDC has definitly caught my eye. (In black of course) I realize issues pop up from time to time and to be expected but before I get too deep into my dream world, Im curious to what it actually costs to keep the bike going!

Thanks.

Just maintenance is very little if you do the oil service and most of the scheduled service yourself...but if you have a dealer do it and put 5-7000 miles a year I would guesstimate about $400-500.

Now there are certain "pinch" points where you need tires and that is more....if you are a "wrencher" you can save a ton of cash doing the service yourself.

Doing your own regular maintenance is very cheap compared to the dealer changing fluids, etc. Figure that even if the parts cost you the same as they do the dealer (they cost you more, but for argument's sake). Your labor is cheap (free) and you'll be paying the dealer between $75.00-$90.00/hr. depending on where you are. A 2 hr. labor bill will be more than you'll spend on fluids in 2 years of doing your own work. As long as you keep your receipts and can prove the maintenance was done at the intervals recommended, there's no downside to doing it yourself. You will notice a fatter wallet though, which is not a bad thing.

Thanks guys!

Guess this turned out to be a dumb question. LOL I can definitly handle most of the wrenching myself providing it doesnt require specialized tooling.

So thats it? Tires and fluid changes while under warranty? Guess Ill look at somechrome stuff then!

in my case it depends, if I need a 5,000 service and then a 10,000 and another 5,000 service it runs about $800.00 to $1,000.00 a year, if I start with a 10, go 5 and another 10 it cost a little more. then I usually need at least one new rear tire but if I need two then I need a new front..so it all depends on how much you ride..and before anybody jumps me about doing my own services, i did that for 40 years, I just want to turn key and go, leave the service work to the Mechanic, he needs the job services cost money if you have the shop do it, I also recommend doing as much as you can yourself, it will save you some, just don't re-nig on the work, follow the book, lube your cables, change oil and filter, don't cheat yourself, do a good job, it pays in the long run, I have today just rolled over 142,000 miles on my bike, no major problems, just routine repairs and replacements..picture taken at 100,000 miles at the shop that does my work for me. oops sorry, this is the dyna side, well I;ll do the same with my FXD to..sorry about that.

Just make sure you get a service manual......

FWIW: I always call my dealer and get a quote on any job and then decide if I want to spend the $$ or whether I can do it myself. But I buy all my parts myself on ebay or on the web at Zanotti's HD or Chicago HD and then take them to my dealer. If my dealer's parts quote is within 10% of the web guys I'll buy there. The guys at my dealer don't care where you get parts.
