Default Reasonable cost of a rear tire install?

Found a local shop (Non dealer) to put a new rear Dunlop on my 05 Ultra. They say the cost will be a bit under 300.00. I think it breaks down as 190.00 tire, 25.00 mount/balance then 3/4 hour of labor.

Seems expensive to me... Yes/No?

Thanks,
Joe

The tire price seams about average we charge a straight hour if its on the bike (70.00) 1/2 hour if its off ( 35.00).

Had to replace mine on Tuesday of this week, took a nail on Monday. The Stealer was too busy to do it any time soon, or so they said. Put a Dunlop (non HD) on it from the local Honda shop (the mechanic rides a SG). They charged me $137, installed.

I found the Tire on-line for 125.00, figured I'd still have to have it mounted and balanced for 25.00. So for the extra 125.00 - 150.00 in pain and rise in blood presure of me trying to do it myself. I think I'll drop the bike off on the way to work and let them do it ;-)

Thanks,
Joe

You may have trouble with that, or at least here you would. All the shops around here say that they cannot install parts not purchased there due to "liability" reasons.

I just had to replace my rear on the Ultra due to picking up a nasty piece of steel in the sidewall. I had it replaced at Bleu Bayou HD as I was on the road.

Tire $168.95
Weghts $ .90
Disposal $ 2.00
Labor @65 per $ 52.00
Tax $ 22.48

Total $249.33

Being fortunate enough to have only being traveling about 15 MPH and having their lead tech there on his day off (when svc is usually closed) PRICELESS

I did mine last summer, the tire was like $170, the shop did the entire change for like $230.. I did have one quote from a local indy for $550 on my way there.. Hmm.. That shop is closed now.. I wonder why!!!

Found an Indy here in Northern Virginia (Devil Dawgs) mounted a rear tire I bought at the HD dealer, for $75.00

Tire from American Motorcycle Tireis about 125.00, shipping is 8.00, mount and balance 25 to 30.00 if you take the tire off and reinstall it yourself for a total of less than 170.00. Not only do you save 130.00, but by working on your own bike you establish a personal bond.

I take my bike to a shop with free mount and balance and a $25 fee to take both tires off and reinstall...Both tires with installation was about $300. If I take the wheels off myself and take them I jsut pay for the tires...
