Default rust in chrome bolts (allen head/torq/etc)

How do you clean up the rust in chrome bolts? I have a few allen bolts that have rust in where you put the tool....

How can I protect it after its cleaned out?

thanks in advance

Use Q-tips and rust remover...RINSE WELL! Then coat inside with clear fingernail polish.

rrr rruuust remover? uh i'm scared 3dog, wont that hurt the chrome?

the guy at nappa auto suggested Penetrating Oil.. not just any tho..PB spray.. copolymer penetrant..magnetic

anyways I haven't tried it yet tho.. the only rust remover I found at nappa was like a gel stuff or spray
wont that crap eat the chrome hehe..

I prefer the Gel. Just put gel on tip of Q-Tip and twist inside . Let it work a bit and then use dry Q-tip to remove bulk..then rinse. I would save this job till the next time you wash.

a little spray of corrosion-X on the bolt head will prevent present and future rust. also on muffler clamps.

PB spray works very well. Just spray it on a q-tip.

it is silver colered paint that looks like aluminum, looks great on the inside part of chrome allen head bolts. I also paint any of the Cad plated bolts that discolor over time, using a small model car type brush. I paint the exhaust clamp nuts and bolts that show....it keeps em lookin brandy new !!!
