Hi guys! I just bought my first HD last week. Its a 2000 Super Glide. I was wondering what the widest tire that would fit the stock application would be. Also, can you go wider with minor modifications? What would it take to go to a 200 series tire?

 

I'm wondering the same thing, except I have a 2003 FXDL ... I've done the search about 25 different ways and this topic just isn't addressed ... maybe its only Softail owners that like fat meat on the rears of their scoots ??!!

 

On 2000.

140 no problem, 150 means turning strut bolts.

180 or 200 requires a kit

how about a 2003 .. stock is a 150, I'm guessing that a 180 "should" fit without doing much other than altering the strut bolts, but I'm unsure !

 

I would guess that your guess is likely incorrect.
I can't imagine the belt will clear with the stock pulley, barely clears the 150.
This would present a whole set of issues.

 

Modified my 01 fxdl to run 180-200mm tire with stock swingarm.......converted to chain drive (chain/0.9 offset trans sprocket/rear sprocket).....8 1/2 in wide fender which required me to relocate the existing fender struts outboard (cut and reweld)......new rear wheel 18 x 5.5 with new tire...........

 

I think when this tire is all used up I'll try a 180 ... whats the worst that could happen? it won't fit and I'll have to try a 160, LOL

 

Here's a 160/60ZR 18" on the back of my stock fendered '01 FXDXT...using a 4.25X18" rim...

that 160 doesn't look too bad ... i guess i'll just have to wait and see

 

I have a 2004 Lowrider with a Metezler 160, stock wheel, no mods, 1/8" clerance between the belt and tire. The Dunlop 160 will not fit without mods it rubs the belt.
