Default Getting All of the old oil out of crankcase!

Okay, has anyone figured out how to get all of the old oil out of the sportster motor? If so will you share? I hate dirty oil. The bike is a 2004 sportster.

You will never get all of the oil out. I generally start with the bike on the kickstand, then lean it over to the right, back straight up and to the left (repeat).

Then I'll put it on the jack, and lift it up just a bit, and leave it for a few hours. But you'll still never get all of the old oil outta the engine.

Yes. You would have to disconnect the oil return line from the oil tank and put it into a pan and then let the bike run for a bit to get the old oil out of the crankcase. Personally, I think it's more trouble than it's worth and you probably risk damaging something a lot more than just leaving the 1 quart of old oil in the engine.

Good tips guys, there is what looks to be a eighth inch pipe plug about three inches behind the oil pump does anyone know if this will drain more oil from the crancase?

Okay, the small drain plug is underneath the crossmember on the frame. You have to cut down a 3/16 ths hex wrench to about a half inch long on the short side to axcess it. Although I did not remove the plug all the way out, I losened up almost all of the way out and what appeared to be oil was seeping out. It was brown in color just like my oil. I dont think it was primary fluid because I just changed it yesterday.

What Im not sure of is, will this oil be replaced when you refill the tank or not.

Yes, it should be replaced but you will be starting the crankcase pretty much dry with only some oil splashed around. That's what I meant about more harm than good.

Ditto here. If you really have to get the last 1/2 quart out you need to use a scavanger and keep adding oil to the tank until the scavanger discharge oil runs clear. Completely draining the system otherwise will leave the motor running without oil until the oil gets pumped from the tank to the motor.

I found the little plug on bottom of motor too much trouble to mess with .
I did find in a preformance book that recomends filling the oil tank before installing oil filter , rig up a coke bottle to catch oil , start engine & let run until clean oil runs out at filter fitting . Stop engine . check & fill to proper oil level , this was called the 5-quart oil change . Should add to engine life .
