Default Big Shot Longs vs. D&D Fatcat on Softail (pics)

I've just changed out the Big Shot Longs with quiet baffles for a D&D Fatcat with quiet baffle. My bike is an '06 Heritage Softail Classic with a stock engine, other than the Stage 1, K&N air filter and a PCIII USB.

I won't know the real numbers until Saturday, when I've scheduled a dyno (I will publish the dyno results when I have them), but after 200 miles I can say that the butt dyno tells me I'm riding a different bike. I've never felt this level of acceleration on this bike, both from a standing start and with a 5th gear roll-on at 70 mph.

The V&H dynoed out at 71.1 hp and 74.3 ft-lbs torque. It will be interesting to compare the two. I'm guessing as much as a 10% increase, but what do I know. It'll also be interesting to see where the power comes in.

As to sound: the V&H with quiet baffles are NOT quiet. They sound a little louder than the Rush pipes with the 2" baffle I used to have. The Fatcat IS quiet, yet with a very nice rumble at idle and a distinctive roar at WOT.

As to looks, that's very individual, so you'll have to judge for yourselves. My take is that the BSLs look smoother and more nostalgic, while the Fatcat looks very aggressive.

I like the look of the FatCat on your scoot... You see Heritages with BS Longs or LS's all the time - the FT stands out!

Assuming you're gonna have it retuned with the new pipe before ya worry about numbers...

You will be very happy with where the torque start "coming on" with the FC!

Phil,

Actually I received and installed a new map from Fuel Moto for the PCIII. Past experience tells me that the map will be very close to the dyno tune -- it has been in the past.

Very nice... Planning on maybe the black version on my Deluxe.

Where did you purchase FatCats? Did you do installation?

Purchased from M&M Cycles. Talk to Mark. Excellent prices and superior service. Try sending them an e-mail during business hours. If it takes more than 10 minutes to get a reply I'll be amazed.

I had the Fat Cat installed by a local Indy shop that does most of the work on my bike. About 1 hour labor, I'd say, all in all.

You will be thrilled.

OldBoldPilot, What a timely post. I have a new two tone red Heritage Classic and was wondering how a Fat Cat would look on it. I already knew it was "the" pipe. It looks great!

Thanks, Lano. I bought it on faith based on a lot of research and pictures, but without actually having seen or heard one (I have the quiet baffle). Turns out to be among the top three mods I've done to the bike.

By the way, the part # for this puppy is 514-32BQ, not the 504-32BQ shown on their web site for Softails. The 514 model is specific to the Heritage Softail Classic, and is a little longer so as to clear the bag. The "Q" is for the quiet baffle.

You'll love it.

Great looking pipe! I sent you a PM, I should have read all the way through as you already answered one question.

I'm glad you posted about the part number too, of all the places I contacted only two got the right part and quoted it for the Heritage (M&M and GMR Performance)

ooops..my mistake..Shooter64 also got it right
