Default '89 harley sportster oil change

I recently bought an '89 883 Sportster. My question is where the heck is does one drain the oil from. There's no drain plug, and there's no hose I can conveniently remove. The only option I can see is to remove the hose from the bottom of the oil pan, in which case oil goes everwhere, or just yank the the entire oil pan out so I can dump it out into an oil pan, not a very viable option either.

I have a '88 and supposedly the Oil Drain Hose runs from the oil tank to a dead end on the battery tray. Stuck with a hose clamp. I can see it looking at the bike, Haven't done my first oil change in my onwership of the bike yet though.

It's easy, there's a hose end under the battery tray. Don't forget to put some oil inside the new filter, and a light film on the filter seal. Don't overtighten filter, it's not necessary and will make it much easier to remove next time. Use a strap wrench if the filter is stuck tight. A little more than 2.5 quarts of oil and you're good! I use a WIX 51215 filter, easy to get off Ebay.

Make sure you run it first to to get the maximum oil into the oil tank. The oil settles slowly into he case on my 1990.

Order the manual off ebay for around $35 for a slightly greasy one.

But, did you change the oil?

Another victim of the "Related Threads" ignorance?
