Default road king rear bumper

I removed the rear bumper on my roadking standard and was wondering if I really need to replace it with that support bracket that harley makes.....it seems solid without it....has anyone else removed theres...and did you replace the bumper with that bracket... or just go without it

It ties the saddlebag support to the rear fender; without it the hardware on the fender spreads. The part no. is 91140-04.

Can't give you an engineering explanation; I installed the part when I removed my bumper on my EG.

Try it without it for a couple thousand miles and let us know how that worked for you if you decide not to put it back on.

Youngrider: If you remove the saddlebags, you see a bar/rail that the saddlebags rest on for support. Without the bumper on the bike, whatdo the rear of those rails bolt tofor support?

You definetly should use the support bracket or you will find broken bag mounts. There was a post about this very subject a while ago.

i removed the rubber insert and cut the lower rail off. cleans up the rear with a little less chrome and still has the support.
