Help !!! Engine cuts out when hot (EVO)
Could somebody help me, I seem to have a gremlin built in to my engine, it cuts out when it gets hot, I have:
1. Changed ignition to dual fire (ultima 53-61) total kit.
2. Timed this to 35* (cant find degree on my keyboard)
3. HSR42 Mikuni Kit (standard jetting)
4. Vance & Hines Classic 2 into 1
5. New petcock (no vacuum lead + plugged old)
6. Fixed a short out on the cable from the Regulator
But, the darn thing runs for 15 - 20 min's, then just dies after a backfire. Trying to start after this is futile, all I get is the occasional misfire through the carby, that is until it cools down, then I get another 15 - 20 minutes. Takes a hell of a long time to get anywhere !!!!![sm=headbang.gif] And I have [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]
Hope someone can come up with some good ideas

It sounds like the ign.mod going south.I installed a ultima ign.in a friends bike a while back it did the same thing.Jireh cust. service told me they had problems with them and gave a refund they discontinued them.I installed a daytona twin tec as a replacement and he was up again.

- spark , air + fuel.
- check sparkplugs , are they firing ?
- fuel ? Is fuel coming down ? Pull plugs , you should
smell fuel after all the cranking ? Is there some kind of
vacuum at/in your tank (try and run it without the
gas-cap on)?
- let us know how you get on.
cheers.

rredneckn, it has crossed my mind with the module, it's a new one I just put in, but I've had a fair few new things put on, like carb etc. and I was just about to start using the darn thing and got 1 "decent" run for about 45 min's, luckily enough it only broke down on the way back home so I "only" had to push it for a bit over a mile, which is a lot considering it was 40C outside (Aussie summer).
pistole, in my frustration maybe I haven't done the obvious tests, I'll get cracking on it tomorrow and I'll let you know how I go, worst case = I have to rewire the OEM module, should be fun since I've got rid of a few cables that no longer was necessary + I'll have to forget about the alarm module after all, not much room under the seat (NO, I did isolate the alarm from the problem, so that is not part of the problem).
I'll be letting you guys know how I go.

RE: Help !!! Engine cuts out when hot (EVO)
Sorry guys, haven't had a chance to do anything as yet, running my own business and have been way tooooo busy. Should be able to do a few tests on this weekend after I've done my invoicing. I also had a whining cam/pinion gear so before I got into deep with this, I thought I better looked into that first so I did what any person who really don't have that much time to spare, ripped it apart and got myself a new cam at the same time as I measured up the clearance. Turned out that the cam cover I bought had a fraction too little distance between the bushings, not much but .008 will cause too much compression between the gears. Needless to say, it was an Ultima cam cover !!

Finally, got it nailed, it was the nosecone unit, had the Harley on the hoist and let it run until it backfired and died, at this point I sprayed freeze spray on the unit to cool it down and I was able to start again, I did this a few times to make sure it wasn't just a one off and each time it worked, so the Ultima single fire kit goes back home to it's maker (literally). Guess for the time being, I'll hang the OEM unit back in. So rredneckn, I had the same problem as you with the Ultima kit, maybe it's better to go with the quality brands.
Thank you guys for your suggestions and help.
