Synthetic oil for '81 shovelhead?
I purchased a 1981 FLHC last fall. The previous owner had 15000km on a rebuilt engine and was using Penzoil 20W50 engine oil. I have drained the oil and have a new oil filter to install. I am looking for advice on wheather or not I am safe to try a synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 V-twin 20W50 in this shovelhead engine?
I apreciate any insight on this subject!

Thank you for the link Bear!
Anyone switched from conventional oil to Amsoil SAE 60 Synthetic Racing Oil (AHR) in a shovelhead with improved results? or does it make that much of a difference?

I would not use synthetic oil in that engine unless you are certain the gaskets are all the same materials technology used after 1995. ( which I doubt). The materials technology used back then is questionable with regard to compatibility with syn oils. It might work fine but you could get leaking issues that are a PITA to repair and costly as well. If that bike isn't leaking your best sticking with conventional HD360 20w50. JMHO. You can also use Bel-Ray 85w140 in the trans as that is dino as well.
