Default Any way to make the stock HD exhaust louder?

Hey guys I have a 07 springer, I actually like the look of the stock pipes except for the volume. Any way to take out the baffles in the stock exhaust or somehow make the stock mufflers louder??

While you could modify or remove the baffles the engine would not perform as well. It is set up for the back pressure they produce. They will get louder over time as the packing breaks in , if you want louder pipes , invest in some slip-ons and a stage I intake and then a re-flash.

Try looking here for a cheap muffler mod that doesn't require any ECM map changes, makes it a bit louder, and doesn't adversly affect the overall performance of the bike.

I ran the bike for the entire summer without a problem, but a lot of people thought itsounded a LOT better.

I have heard that the slip ons alone do not require a map adjustment. Believe me the bike with stock exhaust needs one to wake up and run cooler. I know someone who removed the baffle and then remapped and they were louder than slip ons but also lost the torque.

If you don't have an O/2 sensor in your pipes drill out the baffles. Before I bought my new pipes Iremoved the baffles in my stock pipes. It didn't run any different and it had a nice rumble. I went to my new pipes for a different look. Thinking back though I liked the sound of my stock pipes with the baffles removed better than I like the sound of my new pipes. If you want to remove the baffles, look at the end of your pipes there will be a weld holding the baffle in. Get yourself a hole saw the size of the weld, put it in a drill and start drilling. once you break through the weld the whole baffle will just slide right out. These bikes aren't as finicky as some would lead you to believe. the motors are pretty bulletproof. Some dealers will still do it for you. You don't need to buy a $500 set of pipes to get a nice rumble.

On my 07 FXST with shorty mufflers I got a Johnson bar with a pointed end that would just fit into the exhaust hole. About half way in there is a plug. Took a 2 lb hammer and punched it through. Got the great sound I wanted. Added SE air intake and a Cobra F2000r. The increase in performance was astounding. The small diameter of the shorty muffler has just enough back pressure to keep the torque up. I like the look of the shorty mufflers over SE mufflers. Saved $4-5 hundred over custom stuff.

A side benefit was at a constant speed (except high speed) the sound eases back to almost stock.

huey , its alot of work to take out the baffles then to machine the ports
into a configuration that will keep the same backpressure but just at a larger
volume . i did this to my old nightster got alot more power and sound . but its just simpler
to buy some after market slip ons do the flash or afi thing.
