fatboy oil change and checking level??
I'm a newbie to harleys. Ex jap bike rider for 10 years. Where can i learn about this strange engine with a separate oil tank and what on earth is a freakin sump? How do I check the oil properly(i got a used fatboy) and how the f&^% do I change the oil? I have this rogue chopper article with pics and all, and i still dont get it. It used to be drain plug out fill it up . how much does a dealer charge for a full change meaning all 3 tanks. Excuse the stupidity, but im new to harley's. I'm grateful for any real answers i get. Ordered a manual and all today. I must learn to master this bit.

RE: fatboy oil change and checking level??
I had 3 Yamaha's before my Harley. An XS 750 triple, XS 1200 and V-Max ... If you check the oil level in the oil tank the same way each time you're done. Example I always check mine engine cold on side stand. The oil level comes to the bottom stripe of the dipstick. Had the bike 3 years, 13,000 miles, no problem. I have the dealer do all maintenance. Using the syn3 means changing engine oil every 5k. Your dealer should publish their flat rates to change the oil. A 5, 10 or 15K service should run around $200 bucks.
