Default 48 Panhead replica bike.

I asked this in the Panhead thread, but I thought I would throw it out here too.

I am thinking of building one of those 48 Panhead Replica bikes as advertised in the V-Twin Mfg catalog. Its a complete kit with every nut and bolt required for 16K. All one has to do is paint and assemble.

My goal would be to occupy some of my new free time in a constructive and rewarding way, and hopefully selling it for a small profit.

Thoughts?

Sounds llike a fun project. I love to build a bike myself wiht one of those kits. My guess is you'd be real lucky to break even at sale time though.

Stay away from V-Twin. The only thing they have thats not **** is their repop springers and some of their frames. Their quality of everything else is Taiwan crap.

I am considering building a bike myself. What would be a good company to check into. I want to get the complete kit so I do not have to do a lot of searching around for the parts.

As a dealer for V-Twin,Drag Specialties, Custom Chrome, Etc,all sellthe same parts for the most part andall get most of their parts from overseas...the only difference is the packaging. If you want "American made" parts beware of Harley also as some of their parts are also made oversea. Oversea parts are sometimes crap but mostly they are a good inexpensive alternative. With any kit bike be aware they aren't model car kits. Be prepared to do some welding, cutting, and grinding to get everything to fit.If you are going to get a kit check around on prices....I never sell V-Twin or Drag at retail and a lot of other dealers also discount their parts.

There used to be a company called "Panzer" I think that use to sell modernized Pan motorcycle. They looked tight. Might be out of business? Might not be, don't know. According to this add they sold for around 18,000$:

IMO you'd probably have a lot more fun and make a lot more profit if you
buy a real vintage panhead and restore it!!
