Jap bike guys love to talk about speed and acceleration. For all my searching on the net I can't find much good info on the 0-60 time or quarter-mile times for Harleys, especially Dynas, as I'm still awaiting my Street Bob to be delivered. I know american v-twins have the world beat on torque and low end torque, but how does a 1450cc or a 1550cc SE stack up against one of those Rising Sun Rice Burners say up to the 90 mph range.

 

No contest unless you are willing to spend big bucks on cubes and buy 130-150 RWH. The latest generation of sportbikes should be on the GP track. My buddies 05 ZX11 ran 153 HP at thr rear wheel on the famous rolling thunder mobile dyno at bike week last Saturday night and the dyno operator who does this for a living was shocked. Not only do these bikes make serious horsepower, they are light as a 600 of 3-4 years ago.

Stock, we run high 13's and perhaps mid 13's if you have stage one and can ride the snot out of it.

On the plus side, during our trip to Daytona I was the most comfortable and best looking son of a bi-a-tch in my group of which the majority of bikes were of ricer origin. Speed can only getcha so far.

 

well my father has a metric[] it a vtx 1800, now i know its a metrix but he put the kuryakyn hypercharger, two into one sideburners and a powercommander then had it dyno tuned a local race shop, they usually do crotch rocket, and it dynoed at 99 horsepower and 103 t lbs of torque. it's definatly missing a certain i'll say fit a finish feeling but the thing hauls a$$. He's almost 60 so no dyno drags for 1/4 mile times but im sur it'll beat my bob in a drag race. I'm going to have mine dyo tuned w/a sert in two weeeks and i'll have to see what kind of numbers i run.

Sorry for my first post, I had sportbikes on my brain since I ride with them more often then metric cruisers. Based on the metric listed numbers, most are making 100 foot lbs and up these days and a monster 2000 Vulcan is in the 140 ft lb range. HD should go 95 or 103 soon to get these torque numbers up some.

 

my honda shadow sprit 750 walks all over my street bob.its only jetted and piped.the way my street bob runs i have trouble witch bike to ride when i go ridding. alls i got to say when the injectors get chaged it better run better or its for sale

 

I was going to start a thread on this, but since this is already going, I'll add my two cents. It seems there's all kinds of posts about performance mods with these harleys....hyperchargers, big bore kits, stage 1,2,3 kits, etc etc etc. I just don't get it. I'm certainly not knocking anyone who's into hopping up their harleys, but it just seems to be a waste in my opinion. Lets face it...if you wanna go fast, you could go out and buy a 5000 dollar suzuki sv 650 and blow any harley out of the water...and that's the cheapest and slowest rice burner out there. I, personally, don't ride real hard anyway, so what a harley offers is more than enough for me. But for those who do want to race around, why would you dump all kinds of money into trying to make a heavy, sh*tty handling cruiser into a race bike. It's almost like putting a turbo on a minivan. Why not just buy a corvette?!?
I'm sure I'll get killed for these comments...so once again...even though I don't get it..I do get the idea of having an obsession with making things bigger, better, faster, stronger, etc. So please take no offense. Hell, I do it with my computers...and to a lesser extent with my cars...just have to have the best stuff. As far as my bike is concerned...I'll continue to make it look, sound, and ride better....but I don't really care if it's any faster...so at least my daughter won't have to worry about her college money going to engine mods..and I'm sure that can get REAL expensive

Some people like to go fast (or just quick). For many, it matters just as much how they do it as it does that they do it. Anybody can go out and buy a fast bike but what's the fun in that? You can make a Harley fast and you can make a Jap bike pretty cool but it will never be a Harley! [8D]

 

My harley is the slowest thing I own. Btw there are alot of vette and mustang owners on here.

 

I never said anything about a Jap bike being a harley...if I thought the quality, fit, finish...and most of all pride of ownership was there with a ricer, I wouldn't have spent over 27 grand on buying and customizing my bike. As far as the idea of having a project...I think I addressed that. And yeah..anybody can go out and buy a fast bike....and make it faster.

Finnish Bike-magazine had a test between big cruisers and custom-bikes. This test was done in 2003. Bikes on the test:BMW C 1200 CL, Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide, HD Heritage Classic, HD V-rod, Honda VTX 1300, Honda VTX 1800, Kawasaki Mean Streak 1500, Moto-Guzzi California evolution,Suzuki VN 1500 Intruder, Yamaha Wild Star. Dyna Wide Glide had SE pipes on it. All the other bikes were stock. Fastest bike on the test was V-Rod. Second was....Dyna Wide Glide. Here are the times on 0-100km/h(0-60mph), and acceleration between 60-140km/h(app.38-90mph):
V-Rod: 3.9sec , 9.6sec
Dyna Glide:4.7 , 13.5
VTX 1800: 5.4 , 14.6
Kawasaki: 5.4 , 14.6
Guzzi: 5.8 , 15.8
HD Heritage: 6.0 , 21.1
Wild Star: 6.3 , 17.4
VTX 1300: 6.4 , 14.7
BMW c1200: 6.4 , 21.9
Suzuki: 6.4 , 22.0

I don't know the reliable of these measurements... But I have read that at least the testdrivers are professionals!
