Default Road King Tach Removal...Help/ SOLD!!!

I've got a 2000 Road King I bought new. When I bought it I had the dealer install the tach with the mini billet tach mount. I've decided to mount a detachable fairing and need to remove the tach. I really have no idea how to remove it. Any pointers out there? I know I need to take the nacelle apart, but from there I'm lost. I'm particularly concerned about how the wiring hooks up, and how to remove it. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Bigskyhd, if you are going to be getting rid of the tach, please let me know. I have been wanting to put one on my 2001 RKC. Thanks.

RK may be prewired for a tach even tho they don't come with one,if so
the connection is behind the head light. Let us know what you find,I'am
looking to install a tack on my RK.

Once you remove your headlight, and trim ring, look for a triangular connector with 3 wires. Disconnect that connector. You may be able to snake the plug out between the handlebars and nacelle without having to remove the nacelle. If not able to do so, you can remove the top trim piece (be careful not to break the post) and remove the riser cover, then you should be able to pull the cord through. If not, then you will have to pull the nacelle apart. Remember to be very carful when you replace the nut on the front post of the trim piece, they break easily if you overtorque the nut.

OK, got it. I've got work chores tomorrow, but it's coming off Wednesday when my new Dead Center Faring arrives. Oh, and HIJO202, I'll PM you when it's off, and you get first crack at it. It's in perfect condition. Thanks to all. CCRyder

hijo202, you've got first chance once it's off. Do you want the billet bracket as well, or just the tach? CCRyder

OK, is DONE! What a snap. This was much easier than I ever imagined. Da... I got my workshop manual out and followed the directions. It was a snap. So, I've got the tach and billet bracket off the nacelle, and they are in excellent condition. The three wires all connected inside the headlight Nacelle so all the wires already have connectors on them for easy installation. HIJO202 said he wants them so he has first dibs. Part numbers are 68953-04, 129.95 tach, and 68961-98A Chrome Billet Bracket for Road King, $119.95. They are both in like new condition. They are used but they are in excellent shape. So, I want $160.00 plus shipping from Montana, 59833 to wherever you are. This is a great deal, so if HIJO doesn't want em, anybody else there interested? PM me.
