Default Wire Gauge

Hello all -

I'm in the process of installing 16" Gimp Hangers on my 91' Lowrider. I'm planning on only having (2) micro-switches for blinkers.............internal throttle (exile) and the front brake light switch. Anyone know what gauge wire I should use for the two blinkers and the brake switch? My local guy told me 12 or 14 ................but I've seen a lot of people using 18-gauge for some applications too.

Thanks -

Thank you! After reading your post (should have done that before)... I can tell you I just fully wired my bike up and I used 18 gauge on 90% of the bike. That includes blinkers, headlight, tail light, coil, etc.... The only place I used 12 gauge was if I had more than one device going to be powered in series, and from the ignition switch to the battery. Also I used 6 gauge for the battery to ground and battery to starter solenoid and solenoid to starter. Hope that helps, and here are a couple pics of me doing the wiring. If you have any questions, I would be glad to try and assist.

Also, I would love to hear your experience and possibly see pics of the installation of the Exile throttle! I love them bikes, and ideas they have... one of my future builds I would like to use the Exile throttle and possibly the twist clutch!

I'll try and put up some pics when I finish. I took a perfectly good harley davidson and completely tore it apart. I'm thinking the throttle is gonna look sweet. I'm eliminating all wiring in the bars (gonna run switches on the dash and a hydraulic brake switch).

Brings up a question. For the turn signals I'm thinking of using a Double Post/Double Throw (DPDT) with a "center off." The switch I bought has (6) wire attachments. Do you know what wires go where? I've searched the forum for people using a toggle for their blinkers but haven't found anything. I'm sure people out there have done it though.

Take it light
