My 08 Ultra says the correct tire size for the rear is a Dunlop 402&nbsp\\;MU85HB16
I ordered a new set of Dunlop Elete 3 MU90HB16 for the rear. My understanding
is that it is the aspect ratio 85 is 85% of the width of the tire in height and&nbsp\\;the 90 is 90% of the width in height, anyone useing the MU90-16 have any comments
about this setup, speedo will read low&nbsp\\;I'm sure but how about clearance? Thanks- R.&nbsp\\;

 

The difference in circumference is negligible. Dunlop's web site has the exact dimensions for both sizes. Thay are very close.&nbsp\\;

 

140/90/16/ is the same as the mu85,,,,i put the Elite 3's on my bike

I understand the sizing for the bias ply tire. What about the E3's that are radial. The sizes for the rear are:180/60R-16 (80H) or 180/70R-16 (77H).

Will these radials work and does anybody have any experience with the radial?

 

The 140-90-16 is not the same as the MU85-16. That's why they are marked differently. The MU is noticably wider, over 6m.m., on Metzlers. My 140 Metzler measures 5.475 inches wide, my MU85 measures 5.722 inches wide. They are also a tad lower profile,hence the 85 aspect ratio vs. 90. I have each size on 2 different bikes. It's noticable from behind. the MU's seem to last longer too.

 

You can probably fit any brand of MU/140 tyre - I prefer Avon Venoms. The rolling diameter of 85 and 90 profiles is slightly different, but not enough to notice.

To get a 180 radial in you need at least 3/8 inch clearance between the edge of your current tyre and belt guard. Sounds ambitious to me!
