Default Adjust Gear Shift Lever

The gear shift lever is now too tight for me to fit my foot under it. The dealer just serviced the bike. It looks easy so I'd just as soon do it myself. I just need to adjust it to give a little more room for my foot to fit under the gear shift lever. It must have been a little guy who did it or someone who uses the heel shifter to shift up. Is there any secret to it that I should know before I take a wrench to it? By the way, it is an '08 Ultra, though I doubt that makes a difference.
Thanks

Adjust the rod length rather than removing the lever. Take a look it's a simple job.

Don't worry . . . you won't screw anything up.

As it turns out, it was adjusted as I thought it was, but they just readjusted it at the shop. So, it was no real problem. The Service Manager acted irritated at the mechanic, but I told him it was no big deal. The mechanic that worked on it told me about stuff he had adjusted and he just wasn't quite sure where I wanted it. good guys and they've always treated me good.
