Default 1986 FXR transmission question

I have an 86 FXR thats going to need transmission work.&nbsp\\; And in my search for possible upgrades for it, I was told that it would be a good long term fix if I were to update the transmission from the Tapered shaft to the newer Spline shaft.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Given that apparently the Tapered shaft can crack the clutch housing over time.

anyone hear of such a conversion or have done it?

Default RE: 1986 FXR transmission question

Is it as simple as picking up a 90's main shaft?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; &nbsp\\;\\\\\\; or would I be using the gear set too?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; and if it is just updateing it to a 90's FXR's gear set &amp\\;\\\\\\; main shaft, does that mean any 90's FXR transmission would fit the housing?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\ \\; Basically I'm asking if the only difference between the 86-90's transmissions are the taper vs spline main shafts.

Thanks again!
