what is that rope thing hanging from the handle bar almost to the ground that i see some people have on their bikes? its braided

 

Its a dog hitter. Or you can hit cars or people with it. Also used is a ball peen hammer.

 

Old timers called it a get back whip. Protection and to get the attention of anyone getting too close to you while riding.

 

If its red and blue, which is the only ones i've seen, then its a Bikers for Christ (BFC)777 tassle. It hangs off of the front brake handle. Members only deal.

 

Only problem with them is when youre riding with a passenger itll hit them and they cant get back any further. Just ask my daughter in law.

 

From what i heard from a pretty good source, in some cities in Kalifornia, they are considered a weapon, and if the 'wrong' people have them on their bikes, they are looking at some jail time.
