Default Stage 1 download

I know many of you had your harley's a long time.. and proably could help me answer this.

What is the stage 1 download?

Who downloads it ? Service?

Is it worth doing on a 08 roadking classic?

Just wondering options here. To see what I should and shouldn't do.. that doesn't cost too much.

mine cost 150 bucks....the HD dealer has to download it for you...from what i gather it basically sets up a richer map taking into consideration your pipes and air cleaner. i have a basically stock 07 fxd. i put screaming eagle street legal exhaust and a k&n oem replacement air filter. ( i like K&N). anyway, my bike ran a bit lean from the time i bought it. putting the pipes and aircleaner made it no better or worse. i had the download done and it seems to run better and a bit richer too...before the download my plugs were pretty tan all over and a white on the tip. with the download my plugs are dark except the tip which is tan. i think its worth the money. however, even though the new harleys run lean i doubt that it is lean enough to hurt anything. to me it was cheaper and made more sense than screwing with a pc III or something. if i were really into souping my bike up and wanted to be able to tinker with it i would probably go with something external but not nearly stock as i am..good luck

Put the stage 1 download on my 09 Ultra. Really woke it up. Great performance increase over stock. Also have Rush pipes and SE air cleaner.

im thinking the same question for my '07 RG.. i have a stock set up, will the "stage 1" benefit me in any way with it being stk...and if i do the download, and then add later some slip ons and and A/C kit, will they have to re-do the "stage 1"...

You "can" do the download before putting anything on your bike, but you might foul plugs from an overly rich condition. The download is a one-time thing. Regardless of what you put on the bike now or later. I had the download done as well. I also noticed an increase in performance, well worth the money.

Wrong 09SERG. I do not have SERT and did the stage 1 download. Dealer just installs if. Then works later with SERT or PCIII or any other tuner you may or may not get in the future.

You don't have to have the SERT. Stage 1 is pretty basic and the dealer can do it.

Default stage 1

You all left out an important benifit to a stage 1 download. It raises your rev limiter and is very benificial for that extra rpm when screwing around!
