Default Front Brake caliper help!

I am restoring a 1966xlch. This bike is not 100% stock, and won't be stock when I get done with it. Although, most everything besides the seat, and forks will be stock. The extended forks up front are of unknown orgin. I really like the looks of them and would like to keep them on the bike. My problem is that I am having a hard time finding the front brake caliper. I recieved the bike as a basketcase and it was missing (along with a multitude of other parts). I have managed to find most of the other parts and it is coming along nice. Can anyone tell me what caliper I need for this? Please see the pics.

thanks,

Calabeast

A good pic of the whole lower leg (brake side) would help.

I'm trying to tell if it's a Kayaba or Showa fork. If the mfg.'s name is stamped on the inside of the leg, you'll be closer to an answer. Also, what is the diameter of the brake rotor? You may have mis-matched parts on your bike - the rotor looks awfully close to the caliper mount.

Look at the bike in this link and see if the legs are like yours. Before looking for a caliper, though, make sure your rotor is the stock diameter for that year front end.

that fork should take a mid seventy's superglide caliper kind of a triangle shaped thing with AMF in the middle. there are two pieces to it. the inside brake pad rivets to the bracket.

The sliders are from a 1973 only FX or XL. It uses the banana caliper as used on the 73 and later FLH front. The front end is made by Kayaba. The disk you have is the early iron disc that was replaced with a flat disk and spacer. When you get the caliper pick up an anti-rattle clip 41768-73 also.

That bike on those pics has caliper what was on bikes 74-77 XL-FX, it has only one "mounting hole" on leg. 77 -83 has dual disks and mounting holes are backside of leg.
That leg has 2 mounting holes... banana caliper ??? 73 ?? and yes there is marking inside of leg, it identifys mfg shova or kayaba. I think it's located somewhere round fender mounting points.

Seepixlh nailed it I believe.
Here are what a 1973 and a 1974 disc set up look like for a Sportster.........

Notice the 1973 has 2 mount holes on the front of the fork leg as he said.

The 1974 had a single mount hole and a very different disc, so it seems like you want to try to find the 1973 model caliper. it is a good place to start anyway......pg

EDIT NOTE: Your disc looks almost the same as the 1973 model with the 5 round holes.
Your disc seems to have an indentation on the face of it that does not show up in the illustration. Do you have item #22 on your wheel?
Notice and compare your fork leg to that in the catalog illustration......The 2 'mount holes' on the fork leg seem to have this purpose......the top hole holds item #5 and this has a casting lug on the inside of the fork tube. The lower hole seems to accept a small boss protruding from the caliper body (item #3)

The fork legs do not have a manufacturers name engraved or stamped on them anywhere. I do believe that Seepixlh and Piniongear are correct. I am going to try and find the 73 caliper. These are not cheap are they?

I am not sure if item #22 is on the bike or not. I'll have to check when I go home.

Thanks for yourknowledge I really appreciate it!
