Default What's the Best Value in High-Flow Air Cleaners?

Greetings;

I know there are numerous high-flow air cleaners ot there. Which is the best bang for the buck? Of course, when you're putting it on 20K+ motorcycle, looks count, too!

What are your opinions?

Ness unit it cheap, not just inexpensive.... cheap.

I have seen a ton of them crack the backplates. Additionally, those are very difficult to plumb the hot muchous-like oily muk from the head breathers out of ~ due to the fact that they vent through the casting.

Best on going is the Doherty. Pricey, but billet w/some of the best machining you'll find. It also looks great.

I agree with Phil on the Doherty. I have one on my Fat Boy and it is a top notch unit.

Also the SE kit is not a bad one but you need to switch out the crappy paper filter with a K&N.

American Iron did a piece on the Doherty earlier this year. The performance gains were impressive, but the stock air cleaner did better at lower revs, if you look at the published charts. The following issue also had a corrected chart, as the article had the wrong chart.

The chrome option BS seems to be a very nice unit for the money.

Here's AI tech article on the Doherty. Wish I had read it before buying a SE. This was the first of a two part article and the only one I could find on their web site. Without digging out my old copies I don't know if the chart is the corrected one or not.

Whatever you buy stay away from JET; Johnson Engine Technology. There unit looks nice until you try to install it. The hole doesn't line up with the EFI straight. When you call the guy that own's the place he act's like a total ahole that could'nt possible have a problem with his product and also makes you feel like you're trying to rip him off by telling him there is aproblem. I used a die grinder and hand fitted it because I like the overall design.

I am very happy with the FuelMoto high flow unit. High quality parts, could kept the stock cover and good price.
