Changing Oil 2004 Sportster
Ok guys try not to laugh too hard . I am about to change oil and filter for the first time . Where is the drain plug for the oil on a 2004 sportster . The filter is obvious but how I have never really worked on this thing yet a little guidance sure would be nice . Thanks for your help.

There's not a drain plug. There is a rubber hose that dead ends into the frame. You loosen the hose clamp and drain the oil from the hose. Make sure you have the filler cap off. Also, Harley suggests that when you fill the tank back up, you let a little of the new oil run out of the drain hose before buttoning it back up. I reckon they are afraid it might get airlocked.
There is a drain plug in the vicinity but it drains the oil from the primary.
I would get a shop manual for your bike. It will save you a bunch of time and money in the future.

I'm a new Harley owner living in Korea and I had the same question about the oil tube location. Spent about 15 minutes looking for it.
Your advise about draining a little of the new oil out wasn't mentioned in my owners manual. Thanks for the help & advise.
