I'm guessing since it is an '01 you have a carb fart going on? A phenomeon no one can figure out, had one with my '02 also. Next question; wll it sit and idle without massaging the throttle? You stated you are rolling with clutch pulled in so not sure what's gong on but I will advise you not to you use downshifting exclusivley to slow your bike down, VERY hard on the clutch. I would set your idle higher (assuming it is carb'd), check air filter first,.. then have someone check your idle/throttle cable adjustment since it seems to be while you are rolling. I have often heard people call the Hypercharger a "horsepower reduction device" so it may be starving it of air.
