Over winter I had some KW Ergo back bars put on my bike. I had them adjust the bars one time I was there. I would like to try to adjust them again myself. Where I have them the levers have to be angled upward. If I raise the bars a bit I will be able to bring the levers down. I took the fairing cap off according to the service manual. Then it said to loosen the two front screws to the bar clamps. The radio and everything else is in the way. Is there a better way to do this? Will I need to take the radio out?

I know someone will jump in and say to use the search as aways. Well, I had no luck.

You can probably access the screws (the front ones at least) if you remove the ignition and pull the switch cap cover off. Otherwise, yes, pull the radio. It's easy to do IF you have a ball end allen wrench.

 

Pulling the radio is the easiet way to get to the bars and yes you must do that through the outer fairing.

I can reach mine by pulling the ignition and the switch cap. I have to use a regular old L shaped allen wrench and a boxed end wrench over the end of it for leverage. It's tight, but it can be done. By the way, you can only reach the two bottom bolts, but that's enough.

 

When you pull the iginition off do you need a special tool to do that?

 

Just your key and a wrench. The manual tells you to turn the switch to the lock position, insert key and turn counter clockwise while holding the button under the switch. I never let mine go to the lock cause you can't turn the bars to do what ever work you've got to do. Plenty of info on the subject here, do a search, you'll find much more detailed instructions than I can give.

 

The ball end allen wrench socket seems to work the best after removing the ignition and fairing cap. No special tools needed for the ignition removal and installation, just a little patience lining up everything.

 

I can see where that might work good. Gotta get me a set of those. They were on my Christmas list but Santa must have forgot them.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I got the fairing cap off and I was able to adjust my bars. The only bad part is my bars are right in the middle of my mirrors. And I just got new Performance Machine mirrors.
