Question Valve Adjustment????

Hey all, I have an 04 FXDLI with almost 21,000 miles on it. Question is i think im starting to hear some valve noise at cruising speeds 2500+ RPM should i have them checked? does this bike normally require an adjustment? any and all help is Greatly appreciated.....

It has hydraulic lifters. There are no adjustments to be made.

Check your oil level and oil pressure. Hydraulic valves make noise if either of these are low.

If your oil level is low there is a chance of air bubbles could be introduced into the oil feed to the lifters, same is true of too much oil. The lifters need to be filled with oil to provide the internal pressures to keep the proper valve train requirements to operate somewhat quietly. What viscosity oil are you using?

i run mobil 1 20w50 fully synthetic what do you suggest i run in the primary?

The oil in the primary is there for the lubrication of the primary chain (primarily) and for the clutch pack. My 02 and 05 Dyna's require 26 ozs. A good 10w40 motor oil would be just fine.

i had a guy tell me that i should run the mobil 20w50 syn in the primary also. what do you think?

I have been running Mobil 1 in my engine since I built it this winter. It is sorta noisy. Going to change to something else. I have heard of this a couple times. Time for a change!


I run ATF in my primary, works great!

i heard the other day someone saying that synthetic oil eats up the clutch discs.. is there any truth to this?
