Default Chrome Front Fork Air Baffle - A Problem?

Question about the air baffle that used to come stock on baggers a few years back.... I was interested in adding one to my RKC to reduce buffetting. I've heard two different stories about these:

1). In addition to reducing buffetting, they also redirect (thus increasing) airflow to the engine and aid somewhat in cooling.

2). They used to be stock on the touring bikes, but were found to actually impeed cooling so the MOCO no longer puts them on from the factory for this reason.

So which is it? A good thing for the motor - or not? I'd like to add one unless it is going to negatively effect my cooling... does anyone actually know for sure?

I put a black one on mine, can't see how it impedes cooling, directs air flow onto the motor.

My 05 Road Glide came with a black one and I changed it to a chrome one. I agree with BH seems like it would help cool the motor. I say go for it!!!!!!!!!!

I had a chrome one for my '05 EG Classic, but was told by the dealer wrench that on the twin cams it actually causes heat issues, so I took mine off.

Only way I know of to get a correct answer would be to install an oil temp gauge and try it both ways.

Regards,

Bill

I have one on an E/glide and it doesn't help buffeting of handlebars but keeps the air from coming up from between the windshield and fuel tank area on the backside (helps with back of windshield buffeting). I leave mine on year around.

Thanks Bill. hummmm, so the saga continues... Still unsure whether to go with one or not. Anyone else have any knowledge on the subject? Don't want to ADD to any cooling problems if I don't have to!

One came stock on my 05 Road Glide. I see nowhere in to owners manual where it says to take it off. The only reason that they don't come standard on the bikes now is so the MoCo can sell you one for $20+.
