Default how many miles on your sportster?

I am looking into 2 different 1200c 's, one is an 07' with 4000 miles the other is new 09'. The 07' is 7500.00, all stock, the 09' is 10,600.00, both have two tone paint schemes which I like, however I really like the 07' with olive pearl and black combo, the 09' is darker red and a dull gold, my question is I am a little nervous buying a used sportster with 4000 miles, not sure what kind of miles they were, and if sportsters start to nickel and dime you to death after so long. While in the 09' I get the two year warranty. I really like the color scheme of the 07' though. Can you send out tank and fenders etc.. to harley to re- paint in a previous year color, such as olive and black? Anyway, any info. on mileage and sportsters esp. the one I'm looking at with 4k miles in an 07' vs new 09 would be appreciated. thanks.

4k is not even broken in yet. That is no miles at all. I absolutely love that olive green color as well, I would go for it. There are multiple people on here like cHarley that have several tens of thousands of miles on there bikes. Can't remember the name right now, but one guy has over 60k miles.

Mine has 11,600, basically as long as you maintain them correctly, they will run forever.

I have 19K+ I haven't looked at the odometer lately. I usually just keep it on the trip meter so I can tell when i need gas.

My'07 turned through 15k yesterday. No problems other than rocker box gaskets, which were fixed under warranty. The kind of mileaage your talking is nothing, but you bring up a good point about not knowing how well the prior owners treated their machines, something I'd worry about too.

13,200 on my 93. Owned it since 8502 miles. I'm the third owner. Back rocker box gasket has been replaced, oil pressure sending unit replaced, and rear exhaust manifold bolt replaced. It seeps a little oil around base of front cyliner, but a weekly wipe-up keeps it looking pretty.

I'll use it for daily commuting again here shortly, and hope to take at least one overnight long trip this summer. I'd jump on the used bike.

Around 55,000 miles on my 2006. Still running fine, and not nickleing me at all.

4K aint nothing. If your worried about whether the previous owner treated it right, take it to an indy for a presale inspection.
