Default Factory alarm system question

I just bought my first Harley - a 2006 Heritage Softail - from a private seller, and in the excitement I forgot to ask him for owner's manual, etc. The bike has the factory alarm system (with the push-button fob), but I dunno how to arm/disarm it, or how to tell whether it's on or not. I'm trying to find out if the seller still has the owner's manual, but in the meantime, could someone shed some light on the basic functions of the alarm system (like, how do I turn it on/know that it's on)?
I figured out that if I hold the button for ~2 sec, or push it quickly 3 times in a row the signal lights flash briefly, but I have no idea what that does.

it should be if you hold down the button in the fob for ~2 seconds the lights will flash 2 times and then a red key will flash every ~2 seconds or so in the consol where you read the mph. and then if you move you bike or turn on the ign the lights will flash and you can't start it. and then to unlock it you should just have the push the button on the fob 2 times pretty quick and the lights will flash once and then you are ready to go. atleast that is how it is on my 03. i thnk the 06's are the same.

That pretty much sums it up but get the manual or better yet a service manual so you can learn to do stuff your self which is fun.

There are also ways to disarm and arm it using the turn signal buttons in case your fob is not around and you can put in your own password that way also.

Pretty involved though, you will need the manual for that.

Congrats and enjoy!

Push the fob button twice to disarm, once to arm. I got the chirping siren which makes it easier.

Default Same problem but different

I bought my bike a few months ago with the factory alarm system that operates the same way as described above. The problem is when I turn the ignition to on, even before I actually start the bike both turn signals flash 4 or 5 times. The pervious owner said it had something to do with the alarm system but he didn’t know how or how to stop it. Any ideas would be welcome. thanks

Thanks to all for your replies, helped a lot! (I guess my first thank-you post didn't actually get posted, courtesy of my stupid computer)
